This oil painting was a plein air painting, which means it was done on location.
I am working on speed.

I had so much fun doing this painting!  I started out with a bright underpainting, and I painted everything very loose, which made it fresh and exciting.

I resently completed the first of a series of four paintings.  This is an oil painting of my oldest child, Mason, on his blessing day.

Lunch and Learn at Deseret Book Flagship Store

I had the great opportunity to participate in a "Lunch and Learn" at the Deseret Book Flagship store.  I chose to demonstrate painting with both watercolor and oil paint.  I painted the same subject matter (hollyhocks), and switched back and forth between the two.
This was a great way to show the differences between the two kinds of paint, and it was really interesting to me to see which kind of paint I preferred using.  I was actually more drawn to the oils.  When I was finishing up, I was able to sell the watercolor painting to a kind lady from Australia.  The reason she picked the watercolor was because she was leaving on a flight home the next morning, and the oil painting would have still been wet.  I was happy with how both of them turned out, and I think I'll have to try that experiment again another time.

Lilacs for Mom

It's definitely time to get back into a routine of posting somewhat regularly.
I have had a good summer of mainly being busy with my kids.
Now that they are in school, I can focus a little more time on art.
I actually painted this oil painting, "Lilacs for Mom," a couple of months ago.
It is one that I did of my daughter carrying lilacs.
I was working on painting quick and spontaneous.

I have always liked to paint flowers.  The nice thing about them is that they can be painted quickly without worrying if they are exactly correct.

I went duck hunting with my husband this winter, only I didn't hunt.  What I did do was enjoy the beautiful scenery.  I'm not sure whether I captured the true beauty of this sunset, but I tried.

Potential to Fly

I just completed this oil painting of my daughter.  I was experimenting with some oil painting techniques.

Wow, it's been a long time since I have posted on my blog!  I am not one that keeps up on these things very well...I am currently working on some commissioned wedding portraits that I can't show because they are a surprise.  I have been painting in oils, and feel like I have been learning a lot.  (I have painted with watercolor for years.)  I have done these paintings fairly recently.
