My latest oil painting that I have been working on is titled
"I Will Lift Up My Hands in Thy Name,"
which is taken from Psalm 63:4.  The idea for the painting was inspired by a lady in my ward, Carol Whitaker.  We happened to be at the temple at the same time one day.  She came up to me and told me about this idea that she had with Christ's hands with the nail prints and other people's hands reaching for His hands.  We both liked the idea of having different types of hands.  Each one of us can lift up our hands in his name.
I have been trying to improve my oil painting skills, and hopefully I am improving.  I do still feel like I have a lot of room to get better, and will continue to try.  It is a lot different than watercolor, but I have really been enjoying the challenge.

Spring City Plein Air Competition

This painting was done for the Spring City Plein Air Competition.  I decided that if I was going to do a painting in Sanpete County I might as well paint sheep.  I wasn't super pleased with how it turned out, but it is good for me to do these kinds of things.  You are really pushed when you have to do a painting in one sitting.

I certainly haven't gotten many paintings done this summer because of being busy with kids, but it has been good.  These two oil paintings are some that I did get done.  My goal is to continually develop my oil painting techniques.  With these paintings I figured out that I need to paint "wet into wet" as much as I can.

My daughters and I had fun chasing this beautiful butterfly around
in our yard one day.  It loved these flowers, so luckily it held still long
enough for us to get a few pictures.
I had even more fun painting it!  This is a small 7X9 oil on canvas.

Refuge from the Storm - Ogden Temple

Even though this Ogden Temple no longer exists, I felt like I needed to paint it.
My grandma lives in Ogden, and I was talking to her recently about the Ogden Temple.
I said that I didn't know why I had never painted it yet.  So luckily I already had some photographs to use as reference.

 Work in Progress
The latest oil painting project.  I love the saying, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, It's about learning to dance in the rain."  These are my daughters "dancing in the rain."

Refuge from the Storm - Mesa Arizona Temple

I have been very slow at getting new temple paintings done.  I always think I should be able to accomplish more than I am able to.  I have decided that I need to try do a temple painting "every other" painting that I do.  Even though I am going to experiment more with oil paint, I am still going to do most, if not all, of the temple paintings in watercolor.

"After Practice"

Here is my latest painting "After Practice."
I wanted to do a fairly simple painting to work on my new oil painting style.
My goals were to have a good plan (I did a charcoal sketch before I did the painting),
to have it realistic yet painterly, and to use a lot more paint.
It was fun!

The Inspirational Artist's Showcase turned out very well!
